Artisan Wines

Artisan Wines has a simple approach: authentic French wines produced by small passionate producers, delivered to your door complete with informative tasting notes. They deal directly with the producers, so offer the customer great prices, covering the full price spectrum; from an easy drinking white at £7.25 per bottle (Domaine de l’Ecu) to an out-and-out world-class offering at £36.00 per bottle (from Nicolas Joly, the so-called “high priest” of biodynamic viticulture at La Coulee de Serrant).

Everything about Artisan Wines is hands-on, from the producers who hand-pick grapes to ensure that only the ripest fruits are chosen, to the way Artisan source their wines. Rather than take our influence from elaborately crafted script typefaces, so common in the wine world, we decided to celebrate an almost artisanal marketplace feel. We reverted to traditional letterpress techniques to create a wonderfully warm and imprecise look for the brand, adopting a bold typographic look.

Artisan asked us for a number of printed pieces but wanted to keep costs to a minimum. They were delighted, and astounded, when we told them that we could produce much of their initial printed materials with just one sheet of cleverly perforated A4 paper: letters, compliment slips, tasting notes and invoices. Individual pieces of stationery are created by removing the unnecessary bits (saving them for other uses) and tasting notes are cleverly bound using a red elastic band – all completed by hand; of course.
